Victoria University Press

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Business view: Victoria University Press produces a wide range of books, of both general and specialist interest. We took their static HTML catalogue and made it much more usable. We also added a shopping cart and an ordering facility to handle both local and international orders — and an easy-to-use back-end administration system.

Technical view: Importation of VUP’s Excel-based catalogue to a SQL Server database, plus the inevitable data cleaning. Construction of business rules to handle complex freight charges. Integrated with redesigned front-end custom-built search, a shopping cart and a payment gateway, and addition of a back-end customised administration system based on our dbAdmin tool.

Technical view: Database and screens built with dbAdmin, our tool for generating presentation and administration screens for SQL Server databases.  Work included assisting with data cleaning.
